![]() But my Vaquero, if it sits for a while (more than a day or so) will have a tick-tick-tick sound for a moment or two after startup as the oil gets itself worked up through the system (one thing that makes me weary of running thicker oil. I'm not sure if the 1700's are similar, though they do have the same (or similar) HLA system. Otherwise, I'll stay with the Quicksilver oil or someday try the Mobil 1 20/50. ![]() Now, do I want to hear that deep knocking sound all the time or put up with the "tick"? If the gas mileage suffers much with the heavier oil, since it is already in the low 40's - high 30's with the 5/40, and gets much lower with the heavier stuff, I'll switch back to the lighter weight. With the 20/50, I don't have to be so precise. Of course, if I coordinate the shifting just right with the 5/40, there's no clunk. Seldom hear any "clunk" at all with the 20/50. Shifting is much smoother with the heavier oil. This engine never had the Kawi "tick", until I started using the 20/50. The 20/50 has quieted that down considerably. The engine had a deep knocking sound that was there all the time, could hear it very well with or w/o earplugs. I'm at about 130 miles now - three short rides, all country roads, 50-70 mph.ฤก. ![]() I was going to post an update at around 1K miles, but don't feel that's necessary since I could tell a lot of difference immediately between 5/40 and 20/50. ![]()
